Blue city or Sun city - Marwar
Sun city is known for its bright colours, tradition, culture & cuisine. Almost every city has its own shades so is the case with Jodhpur. The city is known as the Sun City for the bright, sunny weather it enjoys throughout the year. It is also referred to as the Blue City, due to the indigo tinge of the whitewashed houses inside the old city. The blue houses were originally for Brahmins but non-Brahmins soon joined in, as the colour was said to deflect the heat and keep mosquitoes away.
Sun City
Jodhpur is the second largest city in the Indian state of Rajasthan. It was formerly the seat of a princely state of the same name, also known as Marwar.
Old city: The Walled City
Situated in the centre of the city, old city is surrounded by a thick stone wall with six huge gates called Nagauri gate, Merati gate, Sojati gate, Jalori gate, Siwanchi gate and Chand pol. While exploring the old city one will find magnificent old blue houses with carved balcony hanging out & providing sufficient shades on streets. These houses have rectangular platforms outside their houses known as chabutra which is a favourite place for all to gather & recreate.
